About Singles Melbourne

The whole concept of the Social Walks was first
formed in Sydney in 1997 by two single ladies, one a doctor and
the other a physiologist.
They
were both fed up and tired with the singles scene, and thought
there must be a better and easier way where by people can meet
without the pressure of the 'meat market'
So they came up with the idea of Singles Social
Walks and Art Gallery Walks, open to all ages, around 'The
Rocks' in Sydney on a Sunday. They covered all their ongoing
costs, running it for singles, by way of charging a small fee,
and their walks proved to be very popular.

This not-for-profit concept became very popular,
and their newsletter database soon grew to over 300! Having
groups of 10-16 on each Sunday walk, finishing off at a coffee
shop whereby people can network and meet new friends over a
coffee,
The walks folded as they eventually met their
own partners during the walks and neither were willing to give
up their time to run the walks.
In
2003, David Newton founded SinglesMelbourne.com, and worked
tirelessly until 2006, to help make it what it is today.
In 2006, Jeff Richardson took over the walks and
enhanced it through having wine trips, getaway weekends, paws
walks, and free raffles. SinglesMelbourne now has over 698
people on its newsletter list, and represents great value at
only $20 per walk, a little more than the cost of a movie
ticket,it cost's money to bring people together, but its great
value for what your getting over 30 different walks.
